A day trip to the Rila Monastery
, By Елена1 min read

The Rila Monastery was founded in the 10th century by St John of Rila and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. From Bansko it is about two hours by car.
What to see
- the main Church of the Nativity of the Virgin with its rich murals;
- Hrelyo’s Tower from the 14th century — the oldest building in the monastery;
- the monastery museum and the arcaded courtyard.
Good to know
- Cover your shoulders and knees — it is a working monastery.
- Leave early: it is quieter before noon.
- On the way you can stop at the Stob Pyramids — rock formations near the village of Stob.
If you would rather not drive, the reception will book a transfer.
