New Year in the mountains
, By Елена1 min read

New Year’s Eve in the mountains has its own rhythm: dinner with your people, banitsa with fortunes baked in, and after midnight — fireworks over the snowy town.
The traditions
On the first of January children go survakane with decorated cornel twigs, wishing health and plenty. In neighbouring Razlog, Starchevata takes place at New Year — a festival of masked groups, bells and costumes that draws visitors from all over the country.
Practical tips
- Book early — the holiday dates go first.
- Dress in layers: evenings in the mountains are cold, the restaurant is warm.
- If you plan to ski on the first of January, keep the fireworks short and get some rest.
